Abi Burrows’ practice investigates themes around the body, sexuality, mother-child and the subconscious. Abi is interested in how objects are constructed and how the mind tries to associate and find meaning to and with them. Suppressed desires, obsessions, truth and error, absence and presence, fragility and strength are polarities that Abi explores and plays around with. The different materials used and how they can be represented are important elements to burrows’ practice. Abi is especially interested in using materials that are conventionally considered male or female, such as steel and embroidery, and what questions are provoked when these materials are used alongside each other.
